What in my opinion started out as a problematic and messy franchise has progressively evolved in quality with every entry, culminating in this finale which I can confidently call one of the crowning jewels of contemporary multi million dollar filmaking and a lesson for all of us on many, many things all of which I will write down in this review.
Now I will say up front that I have never even touched a book of the Hunger Games series so I cannot comment on anything regarding adaptation or the decision of splitting the last one in two. From my point of view I can say that the first part definitely justified it and with this second part I can say that three minuets into the movie I wasn't even thinking of this as a second part, I was just watching a movie that motivated the presence of almost every scene.

*** The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Official Trailer ***

I cannot believe that the first movie which I really hated because of stupid world building, storytelling and tonal problems has evolved into a film this good and this breathtaking. The craft behind this picture is really palpable and passionate to the point that as I said it is a lesson. A lesson for what, you ask? A lesson for CGI correct use, a lesson for character motivation, a lesson for storytelling pace, a lesson for truly impactive and motivated action and a lesson about cinema, about justifying the money spent on this and giving back to the audience everything they wanted to experience, this is truly a film that respects its audience.
If I hadn't seen them myself I could not believe how well the actions scenes are done. Starting just from the set-pieces which are frantically breathtaking, to the camera work which is the total opposite of what the first one is. You always understand what is going on and it always pays off. Moreover the director really doesn't give you a chance to breathe once sh*t starts hitting the fan and he carries you through the whole movie with brilliant moments. Francis Lawrence lets many situations breathe, he gives a beat, he builds suspense and tension and releases them really slowly to the point where sometimes I couldn't take the rush of adrenaline anymore. This is amazing stuff, trust me.
But the brilliance doesn't end there, the characters all have fascinating archs and very good performances, Lawrence, Southerland, Moore and Hoffman definitely deserve to be mentioned above all, their commitment to this is admirable and it pays off in some performance moments of perfection. The characters also act as the foundations for what the film thematically covers, which is stunning both in the variety of it both in the way in which it covers them. Action scenes and war scenes become integrating part of these, to the same level of dialogue scenes and mold perfectly into what is at times a deeply dark look at society.
Now, lets interrupt the party for a second. The film deserves to be called out for a couple of things. Firstly, a messy starting twenty minutes which shift tone and pace a little too much. Once the film starts to get going it totally transforms in what I described above, but those first bunch of scenes was a little sloppy. Moreover, the love triangle thing is just useless and unmotivated, contrary to what the rest of the film is. Every time it is brought up (not many) my whole enthusiasm dropped.

Yet, fortunately it dropped only to be picked up again by the fantastic film we have here. No matter if you read the books or not, I would even say no matter if you've seen the other films: this is a movie which justifies to itself every scene thanks to great work by all the talented people involved.

The Mining Disaster That Captured The World's Attention In 2010 17 November 2015 | by virek213 (San Gabriel, Ca., USA) – See all my reviews For sixty-nine days in the summer and autumn of 2010, the world was transfixed by a human-interest story like few others in history. It involved the plight of thirty-three mineworkers trapped inside an unstable mountain mine in the Atacama Desert in the southern part of Chile. During what
appeared to be a routine mining operation some two thousand feet below the desert surface on August 5, 2010, the mountain started shifting very violently, trapping these workers in a shelter, blocked by a mass of rock twice the size of New York's Empire State Building. With three days worth of rations, the miners managed to survive an extra two weeks before massive
managed to reach them with additional supplies. But during that time, it was necessary to engage in a very careful rescue operation that took an additional seven and a half weeks; and it involved a great deal of risk. Utilizing a Phoenix rescue capsule designed in the U.S., the multi-national rescue operation resulted in all thirty-three men coming out of there alive on October 13th, some in very bad shape, but all in one piece, physically anyway. This is the story told in the 2015 movie THE 33.

                       *** The 33 Official Trailer 2015 ***

Well directed by Patricia Riggen, a Mexican-born female director whose credits include 2007's UNDER THE MOON, THE 33 stars Antonio Banderas and Lou Diamond Phillips as the principal leaders of the miners who find themselves trapped in that mountain, literally between rock and a hard place, and a Chilean mining company and government that seem unwilling to believe that any of them are alive. The claustrophobic nature of the saga is very well depicted by Riggen, and give the added gravitas by the largely Latin American cast that portray the miners, including Banderas and Phillips. A fair amount of this film was made on location not far from the actual mine itself, in Copiapo, Chile; and the remoteness is photographed with the utmost stark reality imaginable. Riggen also depicts the kind of international media attention that the story got, and how the families and wives of the miners, including Juliette Binoche, who portrays the wife of miner Dario Segovia, played in the film by Juan Pablo Rada, angrily pressed the case for the Chilean government to do more, even to the point of asking for help from outside sources, including an American mining and drilling expert portrayed by James Brolin. Gabriel Byrne and Rodrigo Santoro portray the government officials charged with finding a way of drilling down to the miners without making the mountain even more unstable than it already is, and thus guaranteeing a cave-in that would make rescue impossible.

While it may be easy to portray the Chilean mine disaster depicted in THE 33 as an example of corporate malfeasance that had nearly fatal results, that socio-political aspect is not really discussed in the film, although when the end credits (featuring the real life miners) roll, the end title card indicates that the mining company never compensated the miners for their nearly ten weeks of psychological and spiritual horror (in essence, they got the Shaft, so to speak). The film, however, does go to great lengths to depict the aforementioned psychological and spiritual horror they went through, including a subtle hint that, unless food was sent down to them, they might resort to cannibalism if any of them died off in that hellhole, where temperatures reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit the entire time. Even without this hint, though, the film that THE 33 most closely resembles is 1993's ALIVE, which depicted the survivors of the 1972 Andean plane crash whose survival did partially depend on cannibalism; it also resembles the equally compelling true-life 1995 space saga APOLLO 13. Another aspect well depicted is how transfixed the international media, including every news outlet in the United States, covered this story in a way that, given how tabloid-focused it had become by then, was largely tasteful, though also suitably dramatic.

The whole enterprise is topped off by an appropriate, somber, and Andean-flavored score by James Horner, which turned out to be one of the last film scores he worked on before he perished in a plane crash in Ventura County, California in June 2015. Despite the fairly leisurely pace (some would, mistakenly in my opinion, call it slow), THE 33, like ALIVE and APOLLO 13, is done in the right way, avoiding spectacle most of the time, using CGI only when necessary, and steering clear of sensationalism. As such, it will likely count as one of the best movies of 2015.

Having worked in kitchens i found this incredibly realistic and everything in this film stays true to the life of so many chefs abusing substances and their passion controlling their lives. I'm not normally a fan of Bradley Cooper, however i was amazed to see his acting talents here and how true he was to a real chef. Definitely a game changer for his career after being unimpressed with him in

The Last Witch Hunter casts many mismatched fantasy gimmicks like a desperate magician, lacking identity and any real magic.
23 October 2015 | by quincytheodore (Indonesia) – See all my reviews
Say what you will about Vin Diesel, the guy has performed a variety of roles. From the famous furious action series, sci-fi, family comedy and even the lesser known crime drama, he's a legitimate blockbuster draw. However, in his recent fantasy escapade, he's bogged down by the same flaws from Constantine and even Van Helsing; far too much stylish fireworks and lacking any real focus on narrative.

*** The Last Witch Hunter official Trailer (2015) ***

The Last Witch Hunter tells the story of Kaulder, an immortal who hunts witches for centuries. Straight from the first act, the movie tries to jam as many expositions as possible while panning through myriad of hidden exotic locations practically every five minutes. It feels like a rushed tour of New York and none of CGI view made lasting impression.

This is a missed opportunity since the occult version of modern city is teeming with potential. Other movies, even comic books and video games have used this premise to captivate audience effectively. The screenplay could've showcased the mythology with calm pace and imaginative scenery, yet the movie abruptly shifts between uninspiring random clubs, which makes the entire environment seems generic.

It doesn't have to be Hellboy 2 level of sophistication, but the lore available feels terribly underutilized. Visual is mostly crafted with CG, and the action is mediocre with crude choreography. Underneath the cosmetic spells, the production value feels simply average, far too similar to Constantine from last decade.

This rushed pace is also translated to the characters, which appear like random strangers meshed together and suddenly given strange development. This is not on Vin Diesel alone, the movie has good acting prowess with Elijah Wood and Michael Caine, among others, however the characters are nothing more than stereotypical eccentric magicians or familiar villain. At some points it even looks like some cop procedural series with awkward buddy gimmick.

Lastly, Vin Diesel himself isn't that convincing even though he's groomed for superhero epic. In fact, he fared much better as Riddick, at least he had an identity as the stealthy assassin. While as Kaulder he's just another grunting protagonist despite the presentable physique or the grand attire.

The Last Witch Hunter is a fantasy foray filled with shallow parlor tricks and incompatible hero in Vin Diesel. It had potential to be spectacular, but the shoddy presentation only offers pedestrian exhibition.

Me and a friend again had the opportunity to see an early screening of the movie 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation'. One word. Excellent. Everything about that movie was just perfect! It had the right amount of every element that would make a movie simply brilliant! This sequel for me, was definitely the best Mission movie yet. And at the same time it recalls so many details from the first mission impossible movie. And most of all the action. WOW. Every action scene in this movie was breath taking and there will be moments when you would just want to get up and start clapping. They did a good amount of the stunts without CGI and that will make you appreciate the action even more. Oh and if you thought that plane scene

in the trailer was crazy, then you are in for a treat! When it comes to acting, Tom Cruise easily convinces us that he is a top notch agent of IMF(Impossible Mission Force). This time every member of the team has something to give in comparison to Ghost Protocol. Kudos to Simon Pegg for his impeccable timing for humor. And the villain was perfect! They made the villain perfect for the IMF and the ending of this movie is so satisfying. One of the few movies where the ending just pleases you so much. On the whole, Don't miss this movie!! Seriously.. Don't! It is a movie mean't to be watched by everyone!

A redefined wonderful spy movie.
24 October 2015 | by Reno Rangan (Somewhere in the Cosmos) – See all my reviews
I know Melissa McCarthy since 'Gilmore Girls', but never thought she would rise this far, especially to dominate in a movie with the presence of the big names around her, that too in an action film equivalent to top quality. She's one of my favourite actresses, even I enjoyed thoroughly her under-appreciated 'Tammy'. So this is where the action stars become comedians and comedians action stars. Indeed, it worked out so well.
It shames comedy-spy flicks like 'The Pink Panther', 'Johnny English' etc. From the director of 'The Heat', helmed another perfect female oriented comedy. Jude Law was a decent as usual, but Jason Statham was unbelievably awesome in his tiny part. I had plenty of good laughs, the loud ones after a long time. I still remember the unicorn joke and I can't stop laughing. And roof over a bike, gadgets and so on... I find Melissa McCarthy's line deliverance are so funny and I enjoy her films specially for that reason.

I know they used a stunt double and blue/green screens in the crucial segments for a better result. But still she excelled in all stunt sequences that required physically herself in front of the camera. One of the trivia says, after the end of each day shooting, she looked like fell down an elevator shaft. Her hard work definitely paid off very well.

There are lots of adult oriented comedy, so strictly it is for grownups only and may be matured teens. I'll be definitely disappointed if they won't make a sequel for this. If they do, I hope they retain all the cast, especially Statham along the lead actress. And finally I'm looking forward the director-actress's the third collaboration, 'Ghostbusters'.

I'd Like to Refer to the Indominus Rex as the "I-rex" Please
27 June 2015 | by kgaillard (United States) – See all my reviews

Aside from Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World was my most anticipated movie of summer 2015. I love the first film and even the second film. I hated the third one, but this one looked a lot better than that movie. After seeing Jurassic World, I can definitely say that it is a very fun movie. It's script may not be the highlight, but the film is still much better than Jurassic Park III.

              *** Jurassic World Official Trailer (2015) ***

The plot of Jurassic World takes place 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park. After the incident of Isla Nublar (the island where the first Jurassic Park movie took place in), regarding the theme park, "Jurassic Park", a new dinosaur theme park, "Jurassic World", has been built, embodying John Hammond's original vision of "Jurassic Park". The theme park is run by operations manager, Claire Dearing, and owned by Simon Masrani. At one point, general interest in the park is decreasing, due to the dinosaur exhibits losing their "wow factor". Because of this, the scientists of the park create a new genetically modified dinosaur: Indominus Rex (I-rex for short), to attact more visitors. The I-rex is a hybrid not just out of carnivorous dinosaur DNA, but also of animal DNA (such as cuttlefish). However, before the new exhibit is about to open, the I-rex breaks out of his enclosure and starts rampaging a cross the island. Unfortunately for Claire, her two nephews, Zach and Grey, are visiting the park and are in the middle of one of the park's rides, "The Gyroshpere", when the I-rex attacks them. They survive the attack though, and are trying to escape from the island. Meanwhile, Claire and velociraptor trainer Owen Grady, are searching for the two boys to make sure they're safe. While this is going on, Owen and Claire, along with the rest of the "Jurassic World" staff, must stop the I-rex, before it terrorizes the park visitors.

Coming fresh off of last year's Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt does a great job as Owen Grady. He is very charismatic, funny, and is honestly Jurassic Park's version of Indiana Jones (which is ironic, because there are talks of him being Indiana Jones). Bryce Dallas Howard is also solid in her role, and is much better than what you'd expect, at first. I'll explain why when I get to the script. Ty Sampans and Nick Robinson are also really good as the children, Grey and Zack, and she solid chemistry. The supporting cast, ranging from Irrfan Khan to Omar Sy, are also solid enough for what they are given.

Visually, this movie is a massive improvement over Jurassic Park III, in term of CGI, which looks incredible, whether it be the dinosaurs or the environments. Sure a little bit of it looks meh at best, but for most part, the computer generated imagery works well. There are also a few attempts at practical effects and they also work (unlike the third Jurassic Park movie). Colin Trevorrow is also great at the direction, creating lots of tension and suspense to the incredible action sequences, which are also backed up by great set designs. I don't want to spoil the final fight scene for those who have yet to see the movie, but it is honestly my favorite action scene of the entire series so far, not just because it looks awesome, but it is just so creative, with what they did in that scene.

Like I said before, the screenplay defnetaly isn't the highest point of this film, but it's not a terrible script either. Firstly, whilst I do like the character of Owen, I was surprised about the character of Claire. She may seem like that same big person who says a lot of stuff, but her character takes different directions, making her a pretty badass female character. The I-rex makes a really great villain, with the ideas that the filmmakers used. Mainly its intelligence, specifically the tactics used for hunting (which I won't spoil, because you should go into the movie with as little knowledge that I give to you. I also love the idea of a velociraptor trainer and thought that was really cool. I also LOVE the final act of this movie (again, no spoile- you probably get it by this point).

This script does have some big flaws, though, such as most of the characterization. There are some very forced character moments for the supporting characters, mainly the two children in the film. Zack and Grey do have some good brother bonding moments, but they also have a good portion of backstory about their family that goes nowhere. I also found parts of the first act to be a little slow for my taste, but after that, the movie started to pick up and flow better. Also, whilst I found most of the humor of the film to be very funny, the tone was a tad inconsistent at times.

Overall, Jurassic World is an incredibly entertaining long-awaited sequel. It may not have best best script in the world, but I still had a lot of fun watching it. I don't think it's as good as Jurassic park, or even The Lost World, but it is a big improvement over Jurassic Park III. I recommend that you watch it.
